Roma, Firenze, and Tuscany on Fujifilm x100f

A little over a year ago, I packed my bags and accompanied Lucas & Madeline on their Italian adventures. They invited friends and family from all over the globe to attend their weekend nuptials in Tuscany. We started our week in Rome, headed to Florence after a few days, and ended our excursion in Florence where Lucas and Madeline had a weekend full of festivities planned for guests. Over the course of 7 days, I got to photograph bits of Italy that inspired me and have made their way to frames in my home.

I brought my Fujifilm x100f along the way to capture the in betweens of the trip, and some of their wedding day as well. Taking pictures of architecture that inspired me, people enjoying a shared meal, and admiring the culture of Italy. Looking at these a year later, I’m extremely grateful I took the time to snap a picture along the way. 

Roma // Rome

Rome was filled with tours and all sorts of sightseeing. We spent our first night with pizza in the kitchen of our apartment and many bottles of wine and cheeses from the grocery that transformed me into a red wine girl. We stopped at any gelato spot or cafe along the way, but one cafe was my favorite. The next morning we went to the Trevi Cafe for incredible croissants and coffee, stopped by the Trevi Fountain, and then walked over to the Colosseum and toured the Roman Ruins, followed by a delicious lunch on the patio, and another cappuccino of course. An aperitivo to kick off the evening with friends, which is the Italian version of happy hour! A ‘drink to open the stomach’ is the technical definition. Ending the evening with a cooking class at Eat and Walk Italy was a must on my list, where we learned to make pasta and tiramisu the true Italian way! Not many photos were taken of the Santa Maria della Concezione dei Cappuccini (Church of Our Lady of the Conception of the Capuchins, a crypt containing a decorative display of skeletal remains of Capuchin Friars) and Catacombe di San Callisto (the largest Roman Catacombs that stretch 93 miles), but we were taken aback by the unreal sights of it all. We were able to visit The Vatican just days after beloved Pope Francis passed, leaving us without a view of the Sistine Chapel. I’ve tried to see it twice in my lifetime and both times I’ve been unable to, I’ll take that as a sign from God. A big dinner with friends, lots of wine, and giggling about the days we have already had and the excitement of the upcoming weekend. We boarded our train at Roma Termini after a few fulfilling days in Rome, and headed to the beautiful countryside and the city of Firenze.

Firenze // Florence

Florence was a one day trip before wedding festivities began, starting with a view of the Florence Duomo from the top of the city and a stop for coffee before seeing it up close! We visited Gabi’s leather shop, a must stop if you’re in Florence!! I use my leather tote every day and get compliments on it every time it leaves the house! We saw lots of beautiful art on the street near the Duomo, stopped for more coffee, and enjoyed a wine window before making our journey across the city. Lunch was a delicious sandwich in the city center at Il Bussolotto, a panini shop & wine bar. We stopped and shopped at any little spot we could before heading back to the countryside to Castello di Bibbione, where we were staying, before going out with Madeline for her bachelorette night in Firenze! Trattoria Za Za was our dinner spot with a beautiful 4 course meal. After we indulged in a little bit of everything, we headed to Bar Latteria with our own private party in the back! Many cocktails and dance moves concluded our night!

Tuscany

Although we didn’t adventure much through Tuscany, the property at Castello di Bibbione held stunning views of the Chianti region. Madeline + Lucas held their welcome dinner, wedding day, and brunch and pool party the morning after at the property. You can find their wedding day on 35mm film and digital here!
